Biography

Dr. Dean Ornish has spent 45 years doing what the medical establishment once called impossible: using lifestyle interventions to reverse chronic disease. His randomized controlled trials — published in JAMA, The Lancet, PNAS, and Alzheimer's Research and Therapy — demonstrated that the progression of heart disease and early-stage Alzheimer's could be significantly improved without drugs, purely through lifestyle changes. His Intensive Cardiac Rehabilitation program is now reimbursed by Medicare, Blue Shield of California, and Aetna.

Ornish trained at Baylor College of Medicine, completed his internship and residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, and was a Clinical Fellow in Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He is currently a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, and the President and Founder of the nonprofit Preventive Medicine Research Institute.

His four pillars of lifestyle medicine — Eat Well, Move More, Stress Less, Love More — are backed by over 40 years of peer-reviewed evidence. The Love More pillar, focusing on psychosocial support and connection, directly informed The Path's design philosophy: that consistent, caring engagement between sessions is as therapeutically important as the sessions themselves.

As Medical Director of The Path, Dr. Ornish provides clinical oversight for the platform's evidence-based approach, ensuring that every interaction is grounded in the same science that has shaped his decades of peer-reviewed research.
