About The Path

Built by the people who study how change actually happens.

The Path is the only AI therapy and coaching app built by a psychologist and neuroscientist, co-founded with Tony Robbins, and clinically overseen by both medical and behavioral health care providers.

Our story

It started with a question Anson couldn’t stop asking.

Dr. Anson Whitmer spent his PhD at CU Boulder and his NIMH-funded post-doc at Stanford studying a single mechanism: why the brain gets stuck in negative thought loops. His research on attentional scope and rumination has been cited more than 2,600 times. The conclusion was clear, and uncomfortable. Most consumer wellness apps don’t interrupt rumination. They reinforce it.

As founding data scientist at Calm, Anson saw what scale could do for mental wellness, and what it couldn’t. The next product, he decided, had to be challenge-based, not validation-based. It had to remember you, push back when you needed it, and stop acting like agreement was the same thing as care.

When Anson met Tony Robbins, two very different fields converged on the same conclusion: real change requires being challenged, not just comforted. Tony had spent 45 years coaching 50 million people on exactly that premise. The Path, and the proprietary AI architecture that powers it, is what happens when neuroscience and coaching are engineered into the same product, instead of bolted on top of a chatbot.

“Rumination isn’t a character flaw. It’s an executive-control failure. Once you understand that, you can build software that actually helps.”
Dr. Anson Whitmer, CEO & Co-Founder

What makes The Path different

Four things no other AI therapy app can claim.

01

Built by a neuroscientist and the world’s most recognized coach.

Dr. Anson Whitmer’s peer-reviewed research on rumination and executive control defines how the AI thinks. Tony Robbins’ frameworks define how it coaches. No other app combines both.

02

Designed to move you forward, not keep you on the app.

Anson’s research on attentional scope showed that validation-loop products entrench rumination. The Path interrupts it instead, with session length limits and proactive challenge.

03

Clinical oversight from one of the most published lifestyle-medicine physicians on earth.

Medical Director Dr. Dean Ornish, M.D., is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCSF whose RCTs reversed heart disease and improved early-Alzheimer’s cognition. This research is reimbursed by Medicare.

04

Personalization at the individual level, not the population level.

Most apps apply what works on average. Dr. Leopold’s machine-learning and individual differences research underwrites a different architecture: building a model of you, not a model of people like you.

How The Path actually works

Three things, in this order.

01

Understand the patterns

Built on Dr. Anson Whitmer’s neuroscience of attentional scope and rumination, the AI maps the cognitive loops keeping you stuck.

02

Challenge what’s keeping you stuck

Tony Robbins’ State → Story → Strategy framework runs underneath every coaching exchange. The AI surfaces limiting beliefs instead of validating them.

03

Build lasting change

Dr. Dean Ornish’s lifestyle-medicine evidence shapes how progress is measured between sessions: change that holds, not change that feels good for a day.
