How It Works
The only AI therapy platform built by a neuroscientist and psychologist;
here's exactly how it works.
Built by Anson Whitmer, PhD Psychology and Neuroscience, Stanford NIMH post-doc, Calm founding scientist, co-founded by Tony Robbins. The Path uses persistent memory, 11 distinct AI therapist personalities, and a dedicated crisis safety protocol to deliver therapy-grade support at any hour.

What We Do
Four parts of The Path, each designed to work together.
AI Therapy
How The Path applies evidence-based frameworks: CBT, DBT, ACT, through an AI that builds a persistent model of you across every session. No re-explaining. No starting over.
How AI therapy worksAI Coaching
Tony Robbins' State → Story → Strategy methodology, built into every coaching conversation. Not generic advice; a structured framework for breaking patterns and building momentum.
How AI coaching worksCrisis Support
A dedicated safety protocol, separate from the therapy experience, that detects acute risk, activates a defined response, and pre-fills a 988 text when needed. The Path knows its limits.
How crisis support works11 AI Therapist Personalities
Not one AI. Eleven distinct therapist personalities, each with a different approach, tone, and therapeutic style. Choose who you work with. Switch anytime.

How The Path AI therapy works
How does AI therapy work? That question has different answers depending on who built the product. The Path was built by Anson Whitmer (PhD Psychology and Neuroscience, CU Boulder; NIMH post-doctoral fellow, Stanford; founding data scientist, Calm) for one specific purpose: measurable mental health outcomes.
The four components — AI therapy, AI coaching, crisis support, and 11 therapist personalities — are not features. They are a coherent system covering clinical frameworks, behavioral tools, safety architecture, and personal fit. Explore by focus area if you already know what you want to work on.
Independent Research Purpose-built AI therapy, as a category, has shown promising results in independent research. A 2025 Dartmouth study of Therabot published in NEJM AI — a separate research AI tool tested with a clinically high-risk population — reported improvements in participants' mood, anxiety, and well-being. That trial evaluated a different product, not The Path; it suggests what the broader approach can do.

What Members Say
Real results. Not just the feeling of support.
"I've received basically a 1-on-1 consultation with AI that felt as if I was speaking with a real person that genuinely wanted me to become better in life. Extremely motivating — it feels good to let things off your chest and receive judgment-free genuine advice."
- Jay D., App Store
"First consultation, and I already feel understood. Let the transformation begin."
- Selene v.H., Google Play
"I use the voice-to-text feature and honestly just kind of ramble. I was surprisingly shocked at how great the AI was at figuring out the main points I was trying to get at and helping direct me in the right direction."
- Colorado lex, App Store
If you or someone you know is in crisis, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), available 24/7, free, and confidential. For immediate danger, call 911. The Path is not a substitute for emergency mental health services. See how The Path handles crisis situations →
